Oh I wish I was Canadian !!

Why you may ask???? Because they get a full stinking year of paid maternity leave how lucky are they and they can also make a request to get an additional 15 wks on top of the 52 wks they already get ... ok fine they pay more takes blah blah blah, but the big picture that I personally am focusing on is that they get one full year PAID maternity leave.

While us the lucky ones who get to work in the U.S. OF A gets 6 wonderful weeks to bond with their babies 8 if you are lucky and have a C-Section and I use the word lucky loosely. There are many acts out there per state that can be researched to get a maximum time of at least 3mths paid leave to tend to your baby, 12 wks they are still so teeny tiny to hand your precious little gift over to some ole stranger it breaks my heart into pieces every time I think this horrible thought.

For all the moms who may be reading this how did you do it, I really need some advise on this. I was lucky enough with my fist born to spend the first 2yrs of his life with him as I was able to take him to work with me, but the thought of leaving these two babies just kills me and I know I have to do it to keep a roof over their heads and keep food in their mouths. Its just the thought of it that tears me apart.

  1. i know exactly how you feel. i was lucky enough to be off for 10wks when i had Gabe, but the prospect of going back to work was a rough one. luckily my boss let me work part-time for 2mths so i took fridays off to bond w/ him.

as for awesome maternity benefits, you should check out Russia. my girlfriend told me they get 3yrs PAID leave *gasp* the first yr is paid by your company at your salary. then the 2nd yr is paid by the company at the lowest salary, i can't remember if it's the lowest in the company or just in your specific pay-code. then the 3rd yr is paid by the government @ some amount determined by factors which include your income & what not. in any case though, it's money coming in to cover expenses. plus the best part is the company has to keep a position open for you in those 3yrs. now how awesome is that?

but like you say, we the lucky ones in the "greatest country in the world" get a whole 8wks...and if we're very lucky we get some pay. hooray for us :p
